Research
CRIM's team does archival research and ethnohistorical work, has a robust GIS Lab, and undertakes field investigations and excavations.
In addition, we are actively advancing the application of UAVs to search and recovery contexts. For example, we are working with our partners in Electrical and Computer Engineering to develop algorithms to detect environmental anomalies in footage obtained from UAVs. Our goal is to develop technology that can be used in archaeological and historical contexts as well as in modern search and recovery efforts.
Our team was awarded a Chancellor's Translational Research Initiative grant from UIC to further develop our database of aircraft crash survivor behavior. We are excited to announce that we were recently notified that we are finalists for the follow-on Proof of Concept Award from UIC. We are hopeful that this work will assist in future search and recovery efforts in military and civilian contexts.
